Teacher Excellence and Recognition

Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones stressed the significance to recognize teachers for their attempts and sacrifices during the “Teacher Excellence – A closer look at the Global Teacher Prize,” organized by Quezon City Memorial Circle on 16 September. Educational Secretary Leonor Magtolis.

Briones discussed the likelihood of competing at global and local contests, such as the Global Teacher Prize (GTP) and the Metrobank Foundation, before respondents from the Central, Regional and School Division, departments and colleges of DepEd.

Sec. L. Briones

Organized by the ICO, the forum was designed to encourage GTP Ambassador Advocates in education to exchange know-how, learning methods, methods and assistance schemes with varied learners in education.

The aims of the forum were to increase involvement in GTP and other contests; show best learning methods and to develop the teacher portfolio; share creative approaches to problems relating to schooling; and familiarize themselves with GTP winners and recipients.

The GTP emphasizes the significance and the worldwide recognition of teachers and celebration of their attempts. It also seeks to recognize the effect on its learners and on its societies of the finest educators.

“We must acknowledge excellence and promote it. Those that do stuff, those that innovate, and those that leave the box must be recognized, “added Briones.

Since GTP’s opening in 2015, only four Philippine educators have reached the last top 50.

DepEd Items: Proposed New Hiring and Promotion Standards

The current teaching and non-teaching items available today in DepEd are relatively few. In the school level teaching positions, we only have seven (7) teaching items. These items range from Teacher 1 to Master Teacher IV. In a recent study, we were able to collect some of the proposed Hiring and Promotion Standards of these items.

Furthermore, the items below range from Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 24. You will be able to check for yourself the items per classification.

For those who are interested, it is better to prepare the documents ahead of time. As an aspiring teacher for higher positions, take a look at the table below what you might possibly need to prepare for that promotion you seek.

LIS Service Credits Certification | FREE Download |

The Learners Information System (LIS) has always been in the hot seat for many reasons. And one issue we always hear is the fact that many teachers work on it – after working hours. Consequently, many teachers aren’t aware that updating the LIS will entitle you for Service Credits. And we here will show you our legal basis and a sample downloadable file for Service Credits Certification.

Legal Basis

For every Service Credit request, there must always be a legal basis. With the maximum 15-days for every government employee per year, it’s a must. The fact is, many teachers can’t even get 10-days service credit for 1 year! While others exceed 15-days and as such, are merely wasted. So, for everyone else who can’t get the 15-day maximum allotment per year, we will provide you a way to get it.

The LIS Service Credits for
Teachers and Coordinators

Trivia: “All DepEd Orders that tackle anything that concerns with the LIS – from the very begining of its implementation – provided a provision for service credits.”

DepEd Orders

Here are a list of DepEd Orders that will justify your claim and NO DIVISION, DISTRICT OR SCHOOL PERSONNEL can question its legality.

1) DepEd Order 3 s. 2014, Item #9:

2) DepEd Order 19 s. 2015, Item #9:

3) DepEd Order 26 s. 2015, Item #20:

4) DepEd Order 14 s. 2016, Item #8:

5) DepEd Order 32 s. 2018, Item VIII (Other Provisions), part a. Overtime Services and Payment:

Is this for real???

Considering that we have legal basis for LIS updating every year, then yes! There is evident consistency in all DepEd Orders that reiterates the grant for Service Credit! In fact, in the absence of Service Credits, then Overtime Payment must be given. You might say, we’re wrong since the Service Credits itself is the counterpart on the absence of funding. Technically, that is true. But in the availability of funds, did our SDOs consider to provide overtime payment instead of Service Credits? Thus, the policy itself goes vice versa. If one is not available, then let the other be used.

And for added bonus, we will provide you with a “draft” on a Service Credit Request Form/Certificate. This will suffice as MOV-Evidence for the grant of Service Credit. Just be sure to edit this form we crafted.
